Green
Energy - surely that makes sense ?
There are a myriad of Renewable Energy systems
available today; Solar Thermal, Photovoltaics, Biomass boilers and stoves,
water and wind turbines are all proven technologies.
Other alternative heat sources include Heat Pumps and Combined Heat and
Power (CHP) units. But are these systems appropriate for your house ?
Also, there are many other, perhaps less glamorous, opportunities to save energy.
Insulation
and Airtightness of the building envelope are crucial in order to conserve
as much energy as possible. These “boring” issues should always
be confronted first, because it is far easier (and cheaper) to win significant
CO2 emission reductions by conserving energy through good design than
it is to use a green energy source.
However, proper ventilation of the house (particularly older houses) is
crucial to health and wellbeing, perhaps you need to consider a Heat Recovery
Ventilation system ?
Of course, these choices may be possible with a new build, or major refurbishment; what about the UK built housing stock of 21 million dwellings?
It may not be possible to add extra insulation, improve airtightness, and so on in an existing house. Fortunately, both new build and existing houses can make a major contribution to energy saving by using better controls on the heating, lighting and ventilation systems; you can expect to achieve an energy saving of between 15% to 30% depending on you house, lifestyle etc - see our sections on Home Automation for further details.
We are experts in the application of Green technologies, and their interaction with control systems; why not contact us to discuss the plans for your house? We can help to make sure that the systems will work together
